Create a Self Portrait in a Paint Prgram (August-September)
First grade students will take what they have previously learned in Pre First to help them use a new program called Paint. Students will create a self portrait using the different brush tools in the paint program. Students will also learn how to use the eraser tool, shapes, and color pallet. Students will add in their name and room number using the text tool. As students work they will be saving and loading their work. At the end of the project students will print their final product.
Create a Diagram (October)
Students will draw a picture of a bug and label the different parts. This project will coincide with their studies in science. Students will learn how to add text in a paint program and use the line tool as well. Students will be saving and loading their work.
Thankful Page (November)
In this project students will use their prior knowledge of creating a picture in a paint program. They will create a picture and add it to a document. Students will then write a few sentences that goes along with their picture. They will format the size of their writitng as well as give their work a title.
Theme Writing (January-March)

World Maths Day (February-March)
World Maths Day is a world-wide online math competition. Students from many different countries compete against children their same age. The focus is on learning math facts and recalling them very quickly. Here at ASFG, students take part in the practice period leading up to the day. Then on World Maths Day, classes come to the computer lab for 20 minutes to compete. Students can access this game from home as well during late February to early March.
Create a Timeline (April)
Students use an organizer from the Kidspiration program. The organizer divides their day into 3 sections. Students then add pictures and words to show what they do at each of the differrent times of the day.
Create a Map (May)
Students will create a map for their mapping studies in first grade. Students will color the different colors in a map of North America. They will also lable the main bodies of water and the 3 largest countries. Students will print these maps to use in their presentation to their parents.
