Third Grade Projects
Introduction to Wikispaces (August)Students will learn about online publishing in a webpage. Students will learn about what information needs to stay private for safety. They will also learn how to use an online text editor.
Animal Project (September)Students will continue building on the knowledge that they learned during the introduction. Students will now take a project about animals that they have been working on in their class and publish it to their wiki page.
Native American Report (October-November)Students will take what they have learned in their Native American research to create an individual research report in MS Word and a group Power Point Presentation. Both of these projects will go through an editing and revision process.
Google Docs Survey (November)Students will be introduced to Google Docs. They will use their asfg.edu.mx Google account to login into their Google Docs. They then will be using a Google document to answer questions to a survey.
Web Detective (January)Students will be challenged to look at a variety of websites. Including websites about real animals as well as websites about made-up animals. The students job is to use their "detective" skills to discern whether or not a website is truthful. Students will be given a set of tools to use to check websites. They will then evaluate and write down their findings on a few sites. The web detective webquest can be found here.
Solar System Report (January-February)Student will do their report writing and work in Google Docs. Students will go through and writing and editing process with their work.
World Maths Day (February-March)World Maths Day is a world-wide online math competition. Students from many different countries compete against children their same age. The focus is on learning math facts and recalling them very quickly. Here at ASFG, students take part in the practice period leading up to the day. Then on World Maths Day, classes come to the computer lab for 20 minutes to compete. Students can access this game from home as well during late February to early March.
Graphing Project (March)Students will create a basic graph using data that they enter into an excel spreadsheet. They will learn how to add a title, axis titles, and labels. Students will learn how to format their graph and print it.
Publish Invention Convention Online (May)Students will publish their work an inventor online in Wikispaces. Students will take what they've learned this year to add writing and images to their page.
