Second Grade Projects
Create a Venn Diagram in Kidspiration (August)Second grade students will create a Venn diagram comparing "home" and "school" using a special program called Kidspiration. This program allows students select from a variety of different graphic organizers or create their own. Students then can add pictures and words to organize their thinking.
Create a Document with Clipart (September)Students will learn how to add clip art to a document. They will learn how to change the justification settings for their document. They will also learn different ways to format a picture/clip art. Students will have a title, an image, and bullet points that help teach something that they know about.
Community Helper Blog (October)Students will learn that not everything that is written on the internet is a fact. Students will read through a blog on community helpers and decide which sentences in the blog are facts and which are opinions. They will log their findings on a recording sheet.
Informative Page (November)Students will write on a topic of study from their class. They will learn how to write a paragraph with proper spacing and punctuation. Students will learn how to insert a photo from their computer into their document.
Math Stories (December)Students will learn how to create a Power Point presentation. They will learn how to create slides, and add text and images to their slides. Students will create titles for their slides and add details. They will also learn how to start the slide show.
Dinosaur Research Project (January-March)Students will do the Dinosaur Webquest. In this project students will study a dinosaur and search for information using the internet resources. Students will create in their homeroom class a report on their dinosaur. In the lab, students will create one type of product to teach about their dinosaur: either in MS Word or in MS Power Point.
World Maths Day (February-March)World Maths Day is a world-wide online math competition. Students from many different countries compete against children their same age. The focus is on learning math facts and recalling them very quickly. Here at ASFG, students take part in the practice period leading up to the day. Then on World Maths Day, classes come to the computer lab for 20 minutes to compete. Students can access this game from home as well during late February to early March.
Animation Project (April)Students will create an animation project. They will first come up with a character (either from their own writing or from fiction books). Then with their teachers they will decide which actions to show their character doing. They will then create a background, the characters, and the animation to show their story.
